Support Students and Young People Seeking Asylum
Uniting’s Asylum Seeker Program is a non for profit program supporting individuals and families seeking asylum. This program runs solely on fundraising and philanthropy, providing a range of services including, casework support, emergency relief, foodbank, material aid, social inclusion programs and English classes.
Each year Uniting’s Asylum Seeker Program generously receives donations that provide vital support to children and young people as they return or start school. Helping families purchase essential items like uniforms, school shoes, books, excursion fees and sports memberships.
For families seeking asylum, these everyday costs can be out of reach. Many parents do not have work or study rights, making it incredibly difficult to meet the ongoing costs of education that can enhance a young person’s day to day experiences. Your donation has the chance to allow children and young people to fully participate in school life, to learn, make friends and increase their sense of belonging.
In 2024 this program supported over 100 children and young people! We hope to continue this program in 2025/2026 and are so grateful for any donation received.
Feedback from some recipients in 2024 include:
“This program helps us. It provides us with school supplies to help my children with education. It’s so hard for us, until I can get my visa and finally feel safe. Hopeful to keep receiving this support for my children. Thank you Welcome Centre and all the people”
“This program is big support for our family. It helps our kids continue their study, my son wants to be a doctor. We are always thankful for the Welcome Centre”
“Thank you for your help. It is a big help for our kids. My child was so excited to collect the bags today and has just joined the basketball team with her friend. Thank you thank you thank you”
By contributing to our back to school, you’re giving more than just supplies, you’re helping create a fulfilling and empowering school and social experience that every child deserves.
All funds received will go directly to the Asylum Seeker Program, who will then distribute funds directly to families and schools, to ensure they are set up for success for the year ahead.
