From stairs to strength - 2025 Melbourne Firefighter Stairclimb
On 6 September, more than 1,000 firefighters and emergency service personnel stepped up to fight cancer, depression, and suicide by participating in the 12th annual Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb.
Participants tackled a gruelling 28-floor ascent of Crown Metropol in full firefighting gear, including 25kg of equipment, symbolising the burden of the significant health and wellbeing challenges faced by first responders and their families every day.
The event raises funds to improve support services, fund vital research, and break down the stigma surrounding mental health challenges like depression, PTSI, and suicide.
In a special highlight, seven Lifeline Melbourne Crisis Supporter volunteers and two Uniting staff members had the privilege of donning full firefighter gear and climbing alongside our incredible first responders.
Since its inception in 2014, it has raised over $5.58 million for charity. This year alone, a record-breaking $1,128, 675 was raised. Of this, $455,000 was directed to Lifeline Melbourne, proudly operated by Uniting Vic.Tas, marking our ninth consecutive year as a beneficiary.
With each call costing $39 to answer, these funds will help answer over 11,665 calls from people in crisis.
